I enjoy the hunt for a birthday gift that I know the recipient is going to get great pleasure from. I have two boys and grew up with four brothers so I do feel like I have a little bit of an edge when it comes to picking boy gifts. This month I have 3 special boys with a birthday. I thought I would share a little gift guide of what’s a cool gift right now.
Pokémon cards
This is actually a good boy or girl gift. My Annabelle spends just as much time organizing and trading her cards as her brothers. Pokémon cards come in big or small packs. You can certainly find a pack in your price point for a gift. These cards range from $3.99-$39.99 for a set.
If you want to get someone started with collecting cards, I would suggest the TAG TEAM Pokémon-GX in the Pokémon TCG: Sun & Moon—Unbroken Bonds expansion shows the colossal power of teamwork! With over 210 cards to collect, 7 brand-new TAG TEAM Pokémon-GX, more than 25 Trainer cards, a new Special Energy card — your opponent won’t stand a chance against your experience! It’s not only full of cards, but game pieces are included as well. I couldn’t tell you how to play, but my kids could.
This summer I’ve been pointing the kids to activities that don’t include a device. One day I planned a bit of a Pokémon day. We found cookies at the store that we baked, they spent hours organizing their cards, and I actually got a few things done while they occupied themselves so nicely. I wouldn’t hesitate to grab a pack or three of these cards for a future rainy day. I’m in California so we don’t have rainy days, but we do have days that are too hot to be out for long. One day they played with Pokémon cards til the sun went down. They got their binders at a birthday party a few years ago. I appreciate the talents of other people who are far more creative then I am to make a binder with Pokémon fabric.
Pokémon cards are an inexpensive gift to have on hand for your own kiddos or as a gift for a friend.
Baseball cards
I’m pretending to be a baseball fan in this photo. If I’m being honest, I went to the Giant’s game for the Garlic Fries.
If you have a baseball loving child in your life, they would enjoy a pack of baseball cards. My nephew turned 13 this month. He loves the Dodgers so we gave him baseball cards ($4.99 a pack) and candy for his birthday. A variety gift is always fun. A baseball lover would also appreciate practice balls (affiliate link) if you wanted to add a little more to the gift.
The 2019 Topps Series 2 Fat Pack is perfect for any MLB fan. Keep an eye out for relic and autograph relic cards that can be found in almost each pack and many more fan favorites amongst the 34 cards to collect! Also keep a lookout for contest cards that can be found inside! Topps hits a home run with this one!
Petz Value Box
A relevant gift is always a good go-to idea. With the recent release of Secret Life of Pets 2, this Petz Value Box is a great gift idea. It’s only $9.99 and it filled with a wonderful variety of blind bag toys and a plush animal. This box has well over $25 worth of goodies inside so you know my frugal heart was tripping over what a deal this was.
When I buy gifts ahead of time, I like to find items that a boy or girl could enjoy. This gift certainly fell in that category. It would be fun for a wide range of ages too. It is recommended for ages 3+.
Speaking of planning ahead… I keep a box of random gifts that I pick up year round. I follow a few coupon blogs and when they share a deal for an item that could make a good gift, I snatch it. It’s helpful to spread out these purchases and it’s nice to have something on hand when invited to a birthday party.
