Earlier this week I talked about our first k’nex adventure. By the time we opened this Super Mario Bowser’s Castle set up my son was convinced that he could do it all by himself and so I let him. And he did it right by himself! He separated out all of the pieces into little piles and went step by step through the book. There were a few times when he couldn’t get a piece snapped in just right and he’d bring it to me, but I never even laid eyes on the instruction manual! I love how focused he was while he was working. You could tell all those wheels were moving and he was really thinking hard. Spacial thinking is one of those crucial pieces to development and he never even realized he was learning!
Once he got the whole thing together, we all came in and played with it. My husband and I were big Super Mario Bro. fans back in the early Nintendo days and we introduced our kids to the newer version last year on the Wii. They remembered the warp pipes and mystery blocks and coins and the spinning fire bars! Y’all! There’s a little motor that goes with Draglet and the fire bars and you have to zoom past them just like in the game! Don’t let them get you or you’ll lose a life!
The set comes with several character pieces: Mario, Bowser, Princess Peach, and Draglet. There are launchers to shoot characters over the castle wall and track to slide across the pit. The fireballs move up and down manually (which makes for great fun when you’re playing with your brother and sisters!) and when you reach the end you can jump up to the flag and pop it up! You saved Princess Peach!
