It is that time of year when the “When do you start back at school?” question is heard more frequently than not from your friends and family. With a couple weeks left until Labor Day I’m going to try to squeeze every drop of fun that I can out of these last few days of summer. We’ve reached the point in our summer fun plans where I need it to be easy. No elaborate plans, no days spent packing, just on-the-go fun for us all.
Here are four easy ways that my family will still be making fun memories as summer winds to a close…
1) See Some Animals :: local zoos, animal parks, nature preserves, and even city parks make for great places to sit back, relax, and watch some animals. Nothing amuses my little monkeys quite so much as watching the other little monkeys at the zoo. Bird watching, insect inspecting, anything that catches their attention can be turned into a fun event if you take the time to slow down and enjoy it all.
2) Ice Cream for Meals :: nothing was quite so memorable about our recent trips to the zoo as the ice cream lunches we had afterwards. New red panda? Cool. Petting a wallaby? Nice. Eating ice cream for lunch? BEST DAY EVER!
3) Fairs & Festivals :: summer is full of fairs, festivals, and town celebrations. We spent a weekend looking at classic cars, eating pancake breakfast at the local fire station, and playing games for ridiculously cheap prizes. The kids loved it all of it and are sure to request repeat activities next summer. Also? Face painting makes ANY day a special day.
4) Play in the Water :: a trip to the local splash pad, pool, or lake can be a fun way to spend the day but you can also have a lot of giggling fun playing outside in the rain or a with a family water fight. I recently laughed until my sides hurt watching my husband and kids chase each other around the yard with water balloons and will gladly replenish their supplies for that kind of hilarious entertainment.
Do you have any low-key ways that your family likes to have summer fun?

August 17, 2017 at 1:55 pmGreat read for me today. I was just sitting down and thinking, “What are we going to do today? We have to do something, we only have a few weeks left.” I think our local regional park might just be calling our name for a bit today.
PS – Icecream for lunch is pretty awesome!
