Anyone else knee deep in sick kids and trying to stay above water? I am not exaggerating when I say that in an effort to keep from spreading germs or bringing any new ones home (because the ones we have already are more than enough) my children have not left the house in a week straight. As you can imagine they are going a bit stir crazy and we are looking for things to celebrate… like using less tissues, everyone sleeping a solid 8 hours, and wacky holidays.
To help some of my fellow parents out there who need these pick-me-ups I’m sharing five wacky holidays that happen in the next couple months. Let’s all make it through winter and enjoy the return of sunshine, spring breezes, and a dip in hand sanitizer sales.
January 25, 2018 – YES today! National Opposite Day :: There are so many ways to try to celebrate this crazy holiday but I’m thinking along the lines of making breakfast for dinner and offering (egg) tacos for breakfast. Maybe even have them do homework or school work using their opposite hand.
February 7, 2018 – Send a Card to a Friend Day :: It doesn’t matter how old or young you are getting actual mail delivered is always a treat. I’ll be prepping some notes for friends before that day and have my kids get creative with drawing some cards of their own to send.
February 17, 2018 – National Random Acts of Kindness Day :: This is a holiday that you can’t plan too much for (it’s RANDOM after all) but going out and looking for a way to bless other people with kindness is always a great thing to teach our children.
March 1, 2018 – National Pig Day :: Pigs in a blanket? Miss Piggy marathon? Make cute pink piggy noses and tails with some directional help from Pinterest? I’m going to have fun with this holiday.
March 11, 2018 – Johnny Appleseed Day :: Plan ahead and have a Johnny Appleseed book from your local library to read. This is also the start of Daylight Savings (oh yes, Spring ahead people!) and the perfect excuse to have an easy apple themed breakfast dish like baked oatmeal, overnight oats, apple pancakes, or apple slices an cinnamon.
I hope these simple suggestions help you keep the winter blues at bay until those spring breezes start!
