a simple diy :: hemp salvation bracelet

I was volunteered to teach crafts for Vacation Bible School (VBS) this year. Our theme is Game On, I try not to volunteer myself as a lead teacher due to my children. My son has a surgery scheduled the Friday before VBS. So I have been trying to get everything ready before the week of Vacation Bible School begins. It’s rare that we allow our preteens to participate so I wanted to find something they would enjoy making, and be able to wear it. I thought this would be a great craft to go with the story about when Lazarus died and Jesus Brought Lazarus Back To Life, John 11: 1-44.   I only have the preteens twice for twenty minutes and thought this DIY Hemp Salvation Bracelet would be perfect!

Supplies:

• Hemp cord
• Scissors
• Beads (black, white, green, blue, red and yellow)
• Clip of some sort to hold your cord
• 2 decorative beads for the ends

Step 1: You will need to cut three pieces of Hemp cord: 54″, 13″ and 12″ long.

Step 2: Secure the 13″ cord with your clip. Now place all your beads on this cord in color order black, red, white, blue, green and yellow.

Step 3: Next center your longest cord and tie it in a knot. Begin weaving your cord by creating a C and remember over, over and through.  This is a basic square knot.

Step 4: You will complete these steps until you can count 8 knots. Then you will add your black bead. Continue your knots for a count of six then add the next bead. Then continue the knot process until you have added all your beads.

Step 5: Once you have added all your beads continue the knot process until you have reached ten loops then tie it off like we did to start.

Step 6: Finally you can add your decorative beads to the ends of your bracelet. Criss cross your cords of your bracelet and begin the knot process again starting with a regular knot. Refer to Step 3 if you are unsure.
