My husband and I were invited to the Chamber of Commerce Gala. Unfortunately, this event is cocktail attire which I do not own any short formal dresses. However, I am a very frugal shopper and I was able to get a complete outfit for less than $20. I went to our local Community Thrift Store to look for my cocktail dress and shoes. I found several formal gowns, but nothing was in my size since I have gained 30 pounds it’s hard to find dresses that flatter me. I found a beautiful David’s Bridal wine colored chiffon cocktail dress with a shawl for $10. Then I found beaded slip on heels for $10 and a beaded purse for $5. Yes you read that correctly, I found everything I needed for this Gala for less than $20 everything in the store was 30% OFF!
The ladies there treated me like I was a princess getting ready for a ball! They helped me find all the formal dresses they had, and helped me get into the dresses. One of the lady’s wanted to be sure I had everything: shoes, purse and jewelry to match. I told her I had plenty of jewelry, but I did decide on a New York & Co evening clutch. I love the evening clutch it has bracelets so I can where it while I dance without anyone taking my personal belongings. It’s large enough for my iPhone, lipstick and compact.
The Caparros slip-on heels still had all the beads accounted for, and would have cost me around $100 brand new. These are definitely going to become my go to heels for special occasions. I even plan to wear them with jeans to dress up my outfit for date night. What a great way to enjoy a fabulous evening without going to the expense that this outfit would have cost me had I purchased it new in a store.
Would you shop in a thrift store for a formal event?
