Here’s the thing, I love to decorate our house, but it’s from 1985 – complete with popcorn ceilings. It’s not old enough to have character or vintage vibes, but not new enough to look clean and neat. While we’ve improved some aspects of our home (kitchen & living room), there’s a lot spaces that need updating. Our garage door was broken for 10 years and we just got it fixed. We have a slow list of prioritized projects we are working through. Adulting requires patience, but it’s worth it when you aren’t drowning in debt. That’s a topic for another post.
Sometimes I see the picture-perfect Instagram accounts and feel like I have no business sharing my average mantel. I got to thinking that average means most common. So MOST of us are probably average. We can be inspired by the beautiful social media accounts and then do our best to make a version of it that makes our home cozy and welcoming.
My mantel was inspired by THIS post. I liked the color scheme, textures, buffalo print, greenery, etc. I set to work with what I had to make my own version of these schemes. I love what this blog says too: Inspiring and teaching you how to decorate with confidence and love your home. She totally did that for me!
I have to hang my head and admit I bought my FALL centerpiece from Hobby Lobby, but Shay totally showed us how to make our own in this post. Hobby Lobby had a row of all kinds of pumpkins on sticks. I grabbed a few shapes and colors. Two of the orange ones were painted my favorite mint/blue/sage color. It was leftover paint from our front door.
Buffalo check is creeping in on our home. I found ribbon for 50% off at Hobby Lobby. It’s was a weird almost vinyl material. I cut the ribbon in half and wrapped it around two candles and used the remainder for a runner of sorts. It gave me the pop of buffalo check I was looking for. I would love to find a buffalo check pumpkin, but I haven’t just yet.
Don’t forget to grab UP+UP tissue boxes from Target to compliment your fall vibes. It’s little things like this that make me smile. I also gave our wreath (DIY tutorial HERE) some fall berries and flowers for the season. I like to try to use what I have on hand, but I’m not opposed to adding a new décor item here and there.
While I know our home isn’t the fanciest, it’s ours and we love it. I hope this post inspires you to be content with your space, inspired to add some fall feels, and ideas to inexpensively decorate. Don’t be afraid to paint a foam pumpkin. Don’t be overwhelmed by the perfect posts, just grab inspiration for your space and run with it.
Here are my favorite HOME DECOR accounts that I follow:
The first one is home décor, but the best mom stories imaginable! Jennifer Todryk is probably the funniest person on the planet. Every single day I laugh out loud watching her stories. She just finished filming an HGTV show and I’m so happy she’s been discovered. She’s going to be great TV!
My next favorite also has some FUN-NY stories. She has these chats from her microwave that tickle my giggle bone. This girl has all the pretty fall vibes going on and I adore her humor, decorating tips, and spunk. Morgan is worth following.

Coming in hot with the house envy on this account. Just kidding, I cling to most of her posts because I love her style. I’ve not been following Carla for long, but she grabbed my attention with her mint door (like I have) and pretty porch.

Enjoy finding your inspiration and executing it in your space! I hope you find these accounts as helpful (and humorous) as I have.
