We seldom take time off to go on vacation, but when we do it is usually eventful. This year I was able to book several days at Devils Fork State Park on Lake Jocassee. This lake is known for it’s beautiful scenery and waterfalls. The temperature hasn’t gotten above 85 degrees and is located in South Carolina just a few hours from our home.
On this camping adventure we have enjoyed sleeping in, relaxing, walking trails, cliff diving, rock diving, paddle boarding and boating. Usually when we go on vacation we are constantly on the go doing everything the area has to offer, but don’t really take the time to enjoy ourselves or the beauty around us. This adventure gave our children a chance to do things they have never done. Where we live there is a huge lake that we visit frequently, but it doesn’t compare to the beauty at Lake Jocassee.
We have spent our days discovering waterfalls and looking at God’s masterpiece. I just learned that where we are staying National Geographic listed it as one of the the top 50 places to visit and Lake Jocassee was number 9! I can see why it is absolutely beautiful.
The most spectacular view is Laurel Creek Waterfall. It is the largest waterfall on Lake Jocassee, and there are about seven waterfalls in all. You definitely need a tour guide to find all of the waterfalls because they are tucked away in the coves. When you think you have gone far enough you need to keep going further to see these beauties tucked away. If. you plan to visit this area it is best to take your boat if you own one. It is a great area to canoe or paddle board, but you will not be able to see all of the waterfalls that way.
What places have you visited in the southeast that we should visit next?
