start your day the right way

The thing about mornings is that they come about each day without fail. Whether you are a morning person or staunchly in the night owl camp, there are things you can do to make your mornings better and even have a bit of optimism about the day ahead. It all starts with how you begin your day. Wake up every day with a better outlook by following these tips.

Begin your day with a prayer.

Before I reach for my phone, which is a terrible habit I’ve been slowly breaking, I like to begin my day by talking to God. Try creating a new daily routine where you practice reading morning prayers. Having some guidance for praying can help you establish this healthy habit.

Sometimes praying can help me focus on others and not myself. It also helps me see the positive parts of my life when I slow down and meditate on the blessings I experience.

Journal your waking thoughts.

In the moments of awakening each morning, there may be lingering memories of a beautiful dream that inspires you, or you might have been focusing on yesterday’s turmoil, which turned into a nightmare, leaving you less than rested. Whether you wake up feeling good or bad, taking some time to write down your thoughts when you wake up is helpful.

Those precious few moments of quiet are opportunities to express yourself creatively. You may come back to your journal later on and draw from your writings. It is also a cathartic release of your bad thoughts and worries over things you cannot control or need to deal with. The act of putting pen to paper gives you the chance to put your thoughts out into the world, sit with them for a moment, devise a course of action if needed, and then leave them in the journal – at least for the time being.

Move your body.

After a full night of lying prone in bed, your body may feel creaky and stiff. One of the best things you can do for yourself, mind included, is to move your body. If you enjoy hitting the gym for a workout or taking your exercise outside for a morning run, movement in any form will help you get on the right track and leave you feeling energized for whatever comes your way. Make a routine that you can sustain and build from there.
