“Healthy” Things You Should Never Do

Think you’re pretty healthy? Do a lot to support your physical and mental health? Well, you might be right, but if you’re doing any of the stuff below, then you might not be as healthy as you think!

  1. Using Q-Tips to Clean Your Ears

We’ve all done it: the forbidden Q-tip ear cleaning. That sweet, sweet satisfaction of getting every last bit of earwax out. But here’s the kicker—Q-tips are the bad boys of ear hygiene. Instead of cleaning, they push wax further in, potentially causing blockages, infections, or even damaging your eardrums. Follow these tips for ear cleaning at home, and your ears will thank you for it.

  1. Juice Cleanses: The Sugary Trap

Juice cleanses promise detox and weight loss, but they’re more sugar bomb than health boon. Drinking nothing but juice for days can lead to nutrient deficiencies, muscle loss, and mood swings that make even your dog want to avoid you. Your body already has a fantastic detox system—it’s called your liver and kidneys. Stick to a balanced diet and drink juice in moderation, preferably with a meal.

  1. Eating Low-Fat Everything

The ’90s called and they want their diet fad back. While it might seem like low-fat foods are the way to a healthy heart and slim waistline, they often replace fat with sugar and other unhealthy additives to make up for the loss in flavor. Plus, healthy fats are essential for brain function and overall health. So, ditch the low-fat craze and embrace whole foods with natural fats like avocados, nuts, and olive oil.

  1. Drinking Too Much Water

Wait, what? Isn’t hydration the holy grail of health tips? Yes, but there is such a thing as overhydration. Drinking excessive amounts of water can lead to water intoxication, diluting essential electrolytes and causing serious health issues like seizures. Listen to your body and drink when you’re thirsty—no need to guzzle gallons.

  1. Sunning for Vitamin D

We all need a bit of sunshine to boost our vitamin D levels, but roasting yourself like a Thanksgiving turkey is not the way to go. Extended sun exposure increases the risk of skin cancer and accelerates skin aging. Instead of baking in the sun for hours, aim for 10-15 minutes of sun exposure a few times a week, and always wear sunscreen. Your future, wrinkle-free self will thank you.

  1. Sleeping in on Weekends

Catching up on  sleep sounds like a dream, right? Unfortunately, binge-sleeping on weekends can mess with your circadian rhythm, leaving you feeling jet-lagged come Monday. Try to keep a consistent sleep schedule, even on weekends. It’s tempting to snooze till noon, but your body will thank you for sticking to a routine.

  1. Skipping Meals to “Detox”

Skipping meals to detox is like trying to drive a car on fumes. Sure, it might move for a bit, but it’s not sustainable and can leave you feeling cranky, dizzy, and downright miserable. Your body needs regular fuel to function properly. Instead of skipping meals, focus on eating whole, nutritious foods and staying hydrated.

As you can see, there are so many health practices that really aren’t that healthy, and if you are doing any of them, it might be an idea to stop. Like, right now!
