Why use a HALO SleepSack wearable blanket?

“The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission, the American Academy of Pediatrics and First Candle/SIDS Alliance warn against loose bedding in the crib. New guidelines now suggest the use of a wearable blanket.

Bedding that bunches up around baby’s mouth and nose can cause dangerous rebreathing of carbon dioxide. The HALO SleepSack wearable blanket lessens the likelihood of infants getting blankets over or around their face. Parents report babies sleep better with a HALO SleepSack wearable blanket, since they stay covered all night. Remember that “Back is Best” for sleeping babies.”

If you’re unaware what a SleepSack is, here is the basic premise: it’s a wearable blanket for your baby that you put on over their regular pajamas. I’ve used SleepSacks for both my kids, especially being that they were winter babies who would kick out of swaddles. After my first night of using the HALO SleepSack I decided to retire the other 5-6 SleepSacks I had. I love the HALO SleepSack that much!

Here’s a few reasons why:

It’s SOOO soft! The packaging says that the “Plush Dot Velboa: Wicks moisture and breathes so there is less overheating. Lined with lightweight Jersey for extra comfort.” All I know is that I’m tempted to leave it on after my 2 month old gets up in the morning because it’s so soft to snuggle with!

It has no sleeves. Both my babies were/are finger or hand suckers, they need to reach their hands to self-sooth in the middle of the night. The other SleepSacks I’ve tried have all had sleeves and after putting the SleepSack on over their pajamas they couldn’t move their arms enough to reach their mouth… actually, they couldn’t move their arms at all (think Maggie from ‘The Simpsons’ when she is in her snowsuit). The HALO SleepSack is sleeveless so the baby can still move their arms around which has worked out MUCH better for us.

The HALO SleepSack has an inverted zipper. At first I thought to myself, “What is an inverted zipper?” A great zipper for sleeping babies! Brilliant for middle of the night diaper changes without waking baby (sometimes)! Also, it makes it harder for the children to unzip themselves.

All in all, I’m completely hooked and can’t sing their praises enough.

    We are HUGE fans of HALO SleepSacks at our house. My girls have worn them way past the need to protect against SIDS. It is nice to know that wiggly children are always covered and warm during the night. I love the early walker sleepsack. We are going to have to try one of these out.
