family dollar :: a hidden gem for deals

Have you been to Family Dollar before?  I have gone, but never really looked around.  The toilet paper is a great deal so I typically go in to get that and head out.  And it’s not the 1-ply folks!  Not to mention I normally have a few kids in tow so browsing isn’t an option.

Mom Central and Family Dollar are raising awareness about everything that is actually available at Family Dollar. The amount of money that can be saved at the store is pretty awesome too!

I spend $68 with the intention of only spending $50.  The deals were so fantastic, I just couldn’t stop!  I actually did stick to my budget pretty well as the $18 additional dollars came from cereal, gift bags and a phenomenal deal on a Paper Jamz guitar I couldn’t pass up. I actually finished up my Christmas shopping on this trip too.  I had gifts for my kids, extended family and friends still to buy, and it was all purchased at Family Dollar.

Now you might be thinking all they offer are off-brand items, and you would be thinking exactly like I USED to think.  However, if you are thinking this, you would be wrong like I was.  I was able to score some fantastic deals.  Here are a few:

• Paper Jamz – normally $30 and i got it for 10.
• Lalaloopsy dolls range anywhere around $25 on up – I picked up an imitation doll for $5.  Now, I can get away with this because my kids are 2 and 5 and they don’t really know the difference yet in “name brand”.
• Disney princess dolls cheaper here than other toy stores.
• Elmo floor puzzle for $3
• The Disney Princess wooden 3-puzzle pack for $3.
• Gift bags for $1
• Great deal on cereal and other name brand foods like Betty Crocker and Pringles to name a couple!
• Not to mention, the current deal at my store was buy 2 toys get 1 free!  Boo-Yah!!

All Family Dollar stores are not created equal.  While the one that is local to me is quite clean and the shelves are well stocked and organized, there is another one in town farther away that is definitely more dirty and the employees aren’t as friendly.  If you can deal with this, I recommend still going because the deals you can get are outstanding! 🙂
