4 Steps to Make Kids Bedroom Allergy-Proof
The bedroom is such an important environment for the children because they spend a lot of time playing, studying and sleeping there. It’s therefore critical to make sure that it’s a healthy space that is free from allergy triggers.
Causes vs Triggers
While allergy problems can be seasonal or genetic, there are certain elements around us that act as switches that trigger sneezing and coughing attacks. These allergens range from dust to perfume but can easily be removed to allergy-proof the bedroom.
- Keep Pets Outside :: While children might find it hard to sleep alone without their pets, it’s important to have a culture of discipline that forbids this unnecessary mingling. A cat or dog on the bed will leave fur and dander that will attract bacteria and allergens to the bed, which in turn increase the risk of allergies at night.
- Let In Air and Sunlight! :: A stuffy, stale room with no chance to breathe will keep allergens such as dust in the environment longer and therefore unable to. Ventilation and windows should be an important, to stimulate the flow of air.
- Change/Wash Bedding Regularly :: Normally, washing your duvet too often is not suggested as this will weaken the feather inside. However, it’s also something that must be done in order to keep down the thousands of dust mites living in the bed. Certain natural-based bedding such as silk duvets will be great for these allergy free nights, and you can ask them later.
- Spring Cleaning! :: Now that’s spring around the corner, the kids will be more at risk of allergy attacks. This is because of allergens carried through the air, such as perfume odors and dust, as well as on the surface of furniture or behind photo frames. A simple wipe down can make miracles that will help them sleep better.
Bonus: Get a New Pillow
You might not have thought of it as much, but a pillow is actually the one thing that can radically proof the child against allergy attacks. With hours spent breathing into the pillow as well as lying with the cheek pressed upon it, an old pillow can really have a negative effect on breathing and sleeping, something which has the opposite effect when you have a new pillow! my SIMPLE star rating :: 5 out of 5
