You may be familiar with Lodge from their cast iron cookware. Lodge is a family owned and operated business based in a little town in Tennessee, after making quality cast iron for over 100 years their name is synonymous with quality.
Lodge has recently released a new line of Seasoned Steel cookware that is brutally tough but still great for cooking. These pans are very versatile and I’m excited to get a good season on my 10 inch Seasoned Carbon Steel Skillet to really see what all I can do with it!
To choose your perfect Seasoned Steel from Lodge you can select either an 8, 10, 12, or 15-inch skillet. Each is seasoned with the same proprietary vegetable oil seasoning as their cast iron cookware and are meant to last.
Lodge Seasoned Steel can be used on ALL heat sources except microwaves. Go crazy using Seasoned Steel on your electric, gas, glass, or induction cook-tops; over a campfire or my favorite… in OVENS!
To begin a good season on our 10-inch skillet I’ve been browsing the Lodge Cast Iron Cookbook’s over 200 recipes. Because the Seasoned Steel skillets have angled sides the recipes are a little big but it’s close enough for me. 😉
The above photos are of the Fresh Peach Crumb Coffee Cake included in the recipe book. The first cake disappeared very quickly with some help from my extended family so this was my second one in a week!
Here’s some nice to know facts about the Seasoned Steel line from Lodge ::
- 12 Gauge Carbon Steel – preferred by professional kitchens (people who actually know what they’re doing in a kitchen!)
- Takes high heat for best browning or searing. (Yes, you can SEAR meat in these!)
- Use metal or high-temp utensils, no need to buy special items.
- Steel rivets securely hold the handle on the skillet = high quality for a secure hold
- Remember to wear an oven mitt or pick up a handle mitt or handle holder.
Because this is SEASONED steel you do have to treat it a little differently than a regular pan in your kitchen when it comes to cleaning and care. For a better idea of exactly what this entails visit the Use & Care section of Lodge’s website.

September 13, 2012 at 7:46 amI am wondering, can you still make these recipes (from the cook book) without using a skillet?
Looks awesome!!

September 13, 2012 at 12:37 pmI’m sure you could alter a lot of the recipes to use in another type of cookware in approximately the same size. The biggest thing would be figuring out the cooking times. Some recipes would not work though unless you had another type of cookware that was appropriate for use on a stove and then into the oven.
