Back to school means snacks. Last year I had the lucky draw to be delegated snack for my daughter’s preschool class on the day they visited a local butterfly garden. This was the perfect excuse to make these adorable Butterfly Snack clips that I had found on Pinterest (don’t you just love that site?).These are super easy to make and were a HUGE hit with all the kids (yes, even the boys).
- wooden clothespins
- small googly eyes
- colored pipe cleaners – cut in half
- tempura paint
- hot glue gun
- sponge paint brush
- small resealable snack bags
- snacks!
Step 1 :: Paint the clothespins using the sponge paint brush. Make sure to get both sides and the inside of the tops. If you need to speed up the drying process between sides use a hairdryer.
Step 2:: Using a glue gun attach googly eyes to each clothespin near the top of the side where the pin “pinches.” I found that one nice sized dot in the middle could be spread for both eyes to be attached. Don’t worry too much about being neat, the glue dries clear.
Step 3 :: Using the glue gun again attach the middle of a pipe cleaner half in the “pinchy” part of each clothespin. You’ll need to keep each clothespin open while the glue dries. See my nifty method for mass production? Simply continue to do half the remaining pipe cleaner attachments at a time.
Step 4 :: Curl the antenna ends.
Step 5 :: Fill the resealable snack containers loosely with snacks while pinching the middle of the bag. Put the butterfly clothespins on the middle of the bag.
Depending on the kids you’re making these for you can do any color combination for the butterfly body and antenna. After snack time is done the kids can color a white coffee filter to make their own wings for hours of butterfly fun!
ENJOY!!!
