Last year I started a new Christmas tradition for my girls of giving them holiday themed books as part of our advent calendar celebrations. Fun for them, easy for me, and it has been a great way to build up the selection of books we’re reading during the month of December!
This year I’ve continued the tradition on a smaller scale (we don’t need to end up with 50 holiday themed books by year 3) and have been a little more selective of our new book additions. So far the hands down favorite for both girls is without a doubt the new Dinosaur Train Ride the Holiday Train! book.
With 45 different lift flaps in this sturdy board book it is no surprise I have been noticing the Ride the Holiday Train! book traveling through the house ‘following’ the girls as they play during the day. Here’s a synopsis ::
Buddy and his friends are super excited. Their favorite holiday is coming—the Winter Solstice! Kids travel on the holiday train to the North Pole where the Pteranodon family has the chance to build snow dinosaurs, play a prehistoric game of ice hockey, and meet some new friends. Secondary learning activities which reinforce learning concepts are included, and over 45 flaps hide fun surprises that kids will want to find again and again! Ages 2 to 5We have also been enjoying the newly released Dinosaur Train: Dinosaurs A to Z DVD :: Travel on the Dinosaur Train with Buddy, Mom, and Tiny to gather all the dinosaurs in the “Dinosaurs A to Z'” song for a picnic at Troodon Town! Join the Pteranodon family as they reunite with some dinosaurs they’ve met before, and are introduced to new species, and learn about the classification of all 26 dinosaurs on the train.
This fun new Dinosaur Train DVD also has the Solstice Time episode where… while visiting the North Pole, the Conductor suggests that the family stop off at Aurora Borealis Station on an enormous frozen lake to see the Aurora Borealis, where the Northern Troodons celebrate a “Festival of Lights.” While the kids wait for night to fall and view the Aurora Borealis, they work up an ice-skating show to entertain Mom and Dad. Everyone joins in to sing “Solstice Time is Here” and skate under the lights!
Both have been big hits with my dinosaur loving girls and I’m glad to have added them to our reading and viewing selections!
