Spring has finally arrived here in the Midwest and we are excited for warmer temps and sunshine! My girls and I are especially ready to get outside and play now that winter seems to have finally packed up and moved out. Woo Hoo!!!
A couple months back we moved and near our new place is a wonderful bike trail that we are excited to use. Thanks to the folks at Burley, this summer Miss M will be riding the trails tandem with me on a Burley Kazoo trailercycle.
You’re probably wondering “What exactly is a trailercycle?’ We’ve all seen the bicycle trailers for kids, and we have all seen bicycles, but a trailercycle was a new one for me. Here’s how I explain it to my friends…
The Kazoo trailercycle turns a parent’s bike into a tandem bike with the second seat being for your kid (if you watch the below video from Burley you can see what I mean). As your kiddo grows, or if you’re not heading out on a family bike ride that day, you can use the Burley Plus to then turn the trailercycle into a complete bicycle!
There are two trailercycle options, the Kazoo and the Piccolo. Both trailercycles are recommended for children 4 to 10 years old and up to 85 lb/38.5 kg, with a recommended 2-1 adult weight-to-child weight ratio. Honestly, you’re going to find many of the features for these two bikes are the same. When it comes down to the differences, there is the obvious color difference and then the gears. While the Piccolo has a 7-speed twist grip shifter, the Kazoo is a single gear trailercycle.
We LOVE our Kazoo and Burley Plus and I was surprised to find it fairly simple to assemble. Following the directions I had the Kazoo assembled with the Burley Plus in just over an hour. Some of the steps would have been easier with two sets of hands, but it is able to be done on your own. I never have been able to get the Burley Plus brakes working quite how I’d like so when we’re using the Burley Plus more often I’ll be taking the whole shebang into our local bike shop for some help.
If your kiddo has outgrown the bike trailer stage but isn’t quite ready to hit the trails on their own I would seriously recommend a trailercycle from Burley. Miss M has never been so excited to go bike riding (and that’s really saying something) and I am excited to spend our summer rollin’ in style.
