The story behind the photo:
Just over two years ago, I received a phone call from my mom that I will never forget. “Your dad was outside and…” Being wracked by a sob, she wasn’t able to finish the sentence.
That day, sheer winds whipped through my parents yard and completely destroyed their house. I am so thankful to say that my dad (who was outside when the storm hit) was able to crawl under the porch, pull his dog along with him, and wait out the storm huddled against the foundation of the house.
My mom who was inside at the time was standing in the ONLY area of the house where the roof remained in tact.
Some would call this luck. Some would call it fait. But I know that God was watching out for them that day. He protected every life in that home, including the 2 dogs and 2 cats.
Despite the terrible circumstances my parents endured, they were still smiling at the end of the day. Why? Because they are confident that “all things work together for good to them that love God.” (Romans 8:28)
My mom has always wanted a new kitchen, but God thought bigger and decided to give her a new house. This September marked the completion of their new home. It was a long road with lots of bumps along the way, but God does not promise an easy life. “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
My parents were smiling shortly after the storm and they are still smiling today, perhaps with a little glint in their eye… because they know this new house is hurricane resistant! Haha!!
