achieving “the marriage you’ve always wanted” :: review + giveaway

With today being Valentine’s Day, what better topic to talk about than marriage? Valentine’s Day is a day devoted to all things mushy-gushy and lovie-dovie (not to mention sweet kisses, holding hands and chocolate!). What happens though when those “heart warming” feelings begin to diminish?

TMYAW_Book_3D-245I think a lot of times we get the definition of “love” confused. Love is not a feeling, but an action and a choice. The same goes for happiness. My favorite quote from Gary Chapman’s new book The Marriage You’ve Always Wanted is “happiness or unhappiness is a state of mind that you choose for yourself. It may be helped or hindered by your mate’s attitudes and actions, but the choice is yours.” Being happily married is a CHOICE that I must make on a daily basis… Once I have made that decision, the lovie-dovie feelings will follow.

I absolutely love it when I am reading something and then hear a sermon on the same topic! It is like God is saying, “You really need to hear this again.” Today at church, my pastor reaffirmed the teachings of Gary Chapman when he quoted Ephesians 5:1-2. He proceeded to preach about “walking in love.” He said that “when your love is right, the right emotions will follow.” Love is an action that we must put feet to.

Here’s the kicker…Choosing happiness and love (the verb) is not possible on my own, but allowing the Holy Spirit to love my husband THROUGH me is! If this peeks your interest, I would encourage you to read Gary Chapman’s book to find out how you too can have The Marriage You’ve Always Wanted.
