Last summer while my girls and I were on a road trip, I decided to take a break from our usual music choices and tune in to a local public radio station. I needed peace and quiet and after about fifteen minutes of listening to the classical music I had started playing I turned it back to the CD my girls had been enjoying before my “mommy peace of mind break.” Much to my surprise I was instantaneously reprimanded for changing away from the ‘ballerina music’ that both girls had apparently been enjoying. Go figure. Turns out both my girls have as eclectic tastes in music as their momma!
Fast forward one year and my little scholars have reached a stage where they are interested in learning more about classical music and composers. We have already planned to start a classical composers study this fall when the opportunity came about to check out the latest offering from The Secret Mountain.
You might remember The Secret Mountain from prior releases of their book & CD combos that I’ve shared (links HERE). Well before I was introduced to these fun book & CD combos, The Secret Mountain had released “Listen to the Birds – An Introduction to Classical Music,” which was a Parents Choice Gold Award Winner.
This book was so well loved that with their newest release The Secret Mountain is adding another book & CD combination to this series. “Simply Fantastic – An Introduction to Classical Music” is now available for purchase and is a great book & CD to get your kids interested in classical music!
Here is a little more about book & CD for you ::
The works of Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Verdi, and others are introduced to children through magical beings from legends and classic tales – including gnomes, fairies, witches, goblins, elves, and wizards – that inspired the composers. An original and interesting way for younger listeners to discover classical music, this book pairs three centuries of music history with stunning and evocative illustrations. A glossary of musical terms, a short biography of each composer, and a brief presentation of each extraordinary character are included.
This book is recommended for ages 7-9 and is 72 pages with a 37 minute CD. My 6 and 4 year olds are obviously younger than the recommended age, and thus some of the illustrations were a little intense for them (the witches, goblins, gnomes, etc.) but they still LOVED the book and CD!
