Given that it is World Breastfeeding Month, I thought I would share a fun post with you all. If you follow us on Twitter, you will have seen a few tweets about pumping in random places. Those were most likely from me. I mean, what else do you do when you are uncomfortably crouched in an area to pump. If you are like me, you are uncomfortable to begin with. Heck, some of the places I have pumped, I wouldn’t want my kids to touch anything surrounding me.
On a side note, what does that tell you about the availability of areas where a nursing mother can have a moment to herself to either feed the baby or pump? Anyways…back on subject…
Let’s look at where my pump has gone….
- The bathroom at my daughter’s dance classes.
- The parking lot at a dance competition…in 80 degree temperatures. A rent-a-cop was circling too because he didn’t know what I was doing. Awesome.
- The bathroom at a conference center.
- The baby care center at Disneyland.
- The baby care center at Walt Disney World.
- The nasty, disgusting, dirty bathrooms at the airports. Mind you, you have to wait for the “Family Restroom” because there are no outletsย in the normal bathrooms. It’s so awesome too, let me tell you. Because you hear people knocking every so often…and all you can do is sit there and pump. Then when you can leave, you walk out of the FAMILY RESTROOM alone. Yah…I was that person.
- Spare bedroom at my in-laws house.
- Spare bedroom at my parent’s house.
- Bathroom at friends’ homes.
- The bathroom at the gym.
- The car riding down the road as a passenger.
- Additional parking lots….this time no circling rent-a-cop.
Bottom line…A momma will do what a momma’s gotta do. No matter what the situation, she will get it done. And that I did.
My baby has been nursed, all via exclusive pumping, for 6 months. I am proud of myself. It wasn’t easy, but I hit my goal. I didn’t give up. And that is the point of this post. I want to encourage anyone out there that may think they aren’t doing it right or can’t do it…you can. Listen to your gut and do what you feel you have to do ๐
