I was recently accepted into the Tommy Mommy program via Thomas Nelson. I was pretty excited about this because if you didn’t already know, Thomas Nelson offers awesome books! My family loves to read – and the girls are no different!
After I received my first shipment and had a chance to show the girls, they were pretty excited! There were three books included:
- Hermie: A Common Caterpillar
- Little Hermie: Thank you God for Blessing Me
- Little Hermie: Thank you God for Loving Me
That night I sat down with them and read all three. Since then, I typically read at least one during nap time every day with Adalynn. She is 2 and sits through the reading of the books. They keep her attention great! And I find her often repeating what I am reading to her. It’s super cute. And I think it’s cute because it’s not just a regular book – the morals behind these books line up exactly with our beliefs for our family. Here is an example:
“Little Hermie kneels to pray Beneath an autumn tree. He bows his head and says, Thank You, God, for loving me.”
And hello…how super cute is Hermie!
How has Hermie grown with your kids throughout the years? And how cool is it now that Thomas Nelson has a new line, Little Hermie, which is fantastic for the younger ones in your family!
Max Lucado is responsible for these books, which is another person that I think is just fantastic and who’s beliefs line up with our family’s. He actually JUST released these books late August and they have been flying off the shelves ever since. Here is a little about the creation and thought process behind the Little Hermie series:
Little Hermie: Thank you God for Blessing Me :: $6.99 (ages 0-4)
Little Hermie: Thank you God for Loving Me :: $6.99 (ages 0-4)

September 15, 2011 at 10:34 pmOur 3 yr old has read a hermie book at grandma’s and loved it! This summer we had a “pet” caterpiller for a day or 2 that lived in a bucket outside and our little boy loved to check on him and see what he was doing, so I’m sure he would love to read some hermie stories at home. =)

September 12, 2011 at 3:00 pmI have a 5 year old who just started kindergarten. I’m always trying to teach him that we are all special in different ways. My 3 year old would love the Blessing book. He is starting to say his prayers on his own and this would help him recognize all the blessings around him.

September 11, 2011 at 5:31 pmAt this point, my girls are so young {16 and 4 months} that they don’t understand much of what I read. I think the greatest benefit for them {right now} would be the quality time spent reading with mama! But I would certainly appreciate knowing that I’m reading them good, quality, truthful books! 🙂

September 10, 2011 at 8:39 pmMy children are 3, 4 and 6 and are so curious to learn about God. My six year old an 3 year old boys would learn lessons/values from these books because the adorable bugs would initially grab their attention. My daughter is 4 and loves anything related to God and the creatures of our world.

September 10, 2011 at 8:41 amMy children are 13 (girl) and 7 (boy). We are familiar with Hermie, although we have watched some video and not read the books. I perused “Hermie: A Common Caterpillar” and I could hear what my kids would take away from it while I was reading. My 7 year old has dyslexia, which has caused him some difficulty in learning, and we just found out about this learning ABIlity when he was promoted to second grade. We chose to keep him in the first grade. His sister would immediately help him relate this story to his own situation, and why God made him with dyslexia. It is common in our house to understand that God made you this way for His own purpose and design. I love the element added here: He is not finished with you yet.

September 5, 2011 at 11:14 amI have four kiddos and one due any time in the next 4 weeks. I have 3 daughters ages 7, 5, and 1 and my son is 4. I think my youngest two 1 and 4 would really love the thank you God for loving me – they love hearing that they are loved! My 5 year old would love the thank you God for blessing me – she is so thankful for everything. I love that when she prays it is actually hard to get her to stop! I think my oldest would like Hermie the common caterpillar the best b/c I think it would be great to emphasize purpose with her and that she doesn’t have to compare herself with the world.

Well, I only have one son and he’s only 8 months old right now. So he tends to be more interested in trying to chew on books than reading them. However, I’m slowly building his little library. I love the message behind Hermie: A Common Caterpillar and hope it would help me son see the beauty in what seems to be common things. I was immediately drawn to Little Hermie: Thank You, God, For Blessing Me because even now at this young age, I say a prayer with him every night thanking God for all the important people in his life and asking God to watch over all of them. This book would be a perfect compliment to that! And finally, I would hope Thank You God for Loving me will help him learn to love all people as God’s children.

September 3, 2011 at 2:40 pmI have 2 children ages 1 and 3. I think they both would love the “Thank you God for blessing me” because it talks about what we can be thankful for.
I also think my oldest would really benefit from “Hermie: A Common Caterpillar” since he just started preschool and I’m sure the comparing will start soon.
