Ok, so what is McFarland USA all about? Let’s discuss…
In the tradition of Disney sports movies comes “McFarland, USA” based on a true story of underdogs triumphing over tremendous obstacles. This heartwarming drama follows novice runners who strive to build a cross-country team under Coach Jim White (Kevin Costner) in their predominantly Latino high school. Everyone has a lot to learn about each other, but when Coach realizes the boys’ exceptional running ability, things change. Beyond their talent, it’s the power of family, commitment to each other and work ethic that transform them into champions — helping them achieve their own American dream.
First of all, as soon as the credits starting rolling, I grabbed my phone to find out where on earth McFarland was. It was in California, although I was surprised what part of California it is in! You will have to look, no spoilers here lol!
Second, the movie story line was top notch. We love anything and everything about overcoming movies. And yes, I love the ones that have the good guys coming out on top and everyone leaving with butterflies and happy smiles. I’ll take the other too. But, this one did please me. I do want to recommend you stay all the way to the end for some good “closure”. Ha!
We watched this with my girls and some friends. They are younger (9-12 years old) and their ears sparked up at a couple questionable words. There is one additional scene that had them questioning some things too. Other than that though, I didn’t see any problems for the most part.
All in all, I LOVED it! I’m glad we now have this in our movie vault so we can watch on and off when we please.
Have you seen it yet? What do you think? OR….is this new to you? Will you head out and purchase or rent this now that I’ve shared the news? Talk to me! 🙂
