*I was sent Honeycomb cereal and a monetary gift to share this yummy snack with you, but all opinions are my own!*
Summer break is here and so are the…’what are we going to do today’ questions. For us, the first couple weeks of summer break are crazy because we still have a lot of dance commitments. But, because we have dance commitments, that means we can’t go out of town but instead get to do little things around town. One of the things my girls absolutely love to do is create in the kitchen. While I’m most certainly NO Betty Crocker, I do love finding simple and easy recipes that I can fully understand and share responsibilities of the creation with the kids.
We did our first creation the other day with one of my Lili and Adalynn’s friends who stayed the night. This recipe was perfect too because we were able to make it, it had to cool…so they could go and play for a couple more hours and come back to a yummy treat.
The best part, I had almost all the ingredients already in my home AND it was so simple to make. I started the task off with a box of Honeycomb cereal and picked the recipe on the Honeycomb site. Side note, did you know that Post Honeycomb cereal is turning 50 this year?
This fun shaped cereal, you will soon learn, is so much more than just cereal. It can be used in a treat like I’m sharing today, in muffins and more! So, enough chit chat, let’s see what I made!
It all started with chocolate…
Monkey Munch (pulled from the Monkey Munch recipe page at Honeycomb) ::
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- 4 squares semi-sweet chocolate (I used chocolate chips because I didn’t have the squares, just do your own math if you do this too.)
- 8 cups Post Honeycomb Cereal
- 2 Tbsp. powdered sugar
Directions
- Microwave peanut butter and chocolate in large microwaveable bowl on HIGH 1-1/2 min. Stir until chocolate is completely melted and mixture is well blended.
- Pour over cereal in large bowl; toss to evenly coat. Place 2 large sheets of aluminum foil on counter, with long sides of foil slightly overlapping. Spread cereal mixture onto foil. Let stand 2 hours or until chocolate coating is set.
- Place powdered sugar in fine mesh strainer. Shake strainer over cereal mixture to evenly coat cereal mixture with sugar. Store in tightly covered container at room temperature.

July 12, 2015 at 5:04 pmThese remind me of Chex Muddy Buddies. I believe the basic ingredients are the same, but they look and sound every bit as good.
