celebrate summer with daniel tiger :: dvd & book

We are so fortunate to live in an area with miles and miles of beautiful beaches. It’s one of our favorite places to spend our summer days and evenings. But it’s not relaxing. Even on the days when we have the beach almost to ourselves, I’m on high alert. It can be exhausting!

So, before we head to the beach, we go over some of our safety rules. The standard “stay where I can see you”, “ask before going into the water”, etc. My older kids do pretty well with remembering the rules but my preschooler forgets them from time to time. He just gets caught up in the excitement of sand and water and chasing seagulls.

That’s why I love the Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood “Safety at the Beach” episode and the complimentary “Daniel’s Day at the Beach” book!

Together the DVD and book remind preschoolers the importance of remembering the rules while at the beach with the catchy little song “Stop and listen to stay safe!”

The book actually follows the same storyline as the DVD episode so kids can follow along in their book as they watch the episode!

Of course my son loves to watch Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and is always singing those catchy little songs {so am I}. So, after we go over the beach rules, we sing our little “Stop and listen to stay safe!” song as a reminder. It’s so fun to hear him singing that same song while we’re having at the beach! And hopefully by singing the song while he plays, it will give him pause before heading out of my sight or making his way near the water.

And I’ll continue to stay perched on my beach chair with my eagle-eye vision and frazzled nerves 😉 No rest for the parents when it comes to beach day!
