Ever wonder what to do with those birthday gifts that require A LOT of time to create? Ever see a cute craft project in the dollar section of the store but know you will never have a block of time to create, clean up, and get on with the day? Wonder what to do with the fifth playdough gift your little one received this Christmas? Why not stash it all away for a cold day? Why not create a “snow day box”?!?!
It seems like my little ones have far more snow days than I ever did! While I certainly enjoy turning off my alarm clock and having my little trio snuggle with me in their PJs all day, we start to get a little restless mid day! With these thoughts in mind, I began to create my own personal sanity saver, a “snow day box”!
Christmas and birthday time my children are flooded with thoughtful gifts, but its all too much for them to dig through. I keep an area of gifts for them to open throughout the year and a box of craft items for those days where the time just moves too slowly!
So its about that time… one o’clock in the afternoon to be exact. Lunch is finished, not interested in a “quiet time”, and these little ones snuggle up against me in their pajamas, they bat their eyes and say “IMMM BOOORRREEEDDD MOMMM…!” It is in this moment, I dash to the shelf in my basement that houses this coveted box and BAM entertained children!
My box is filled with new surprises!
From play dough to a dinosaur dig to a car making kit!
Even new paint brushes made my little one excited!
So while these snows days are welcomed blessing and some days may seem more like a curse, as with anything, having a plan and a quick go to can help you happily make it to dinner and swiftly to bed time!
…and heck, if you get really desperate even let them decorate the box!
What are some things you do on a snow day (or even a rainy day)?
What are some things you could add to a “snow day box”?

January 22, 2017 at 2:00 pmOh, I need a snow day box. My niece & nephews live across the street, & if it snows they come over here (cause Mom & Dad still have to go to work!) I mostly just let them play on the tablets or watch TV, but that doesn’t always cut it!
