As much as I love a big home project to work on sometimes the simple and easy ones are what bring that little bit of satisfaction and joy to my day. Even something as quick as a 5 minute frame re-do can scratch the creativity itch! Recently I pulled out a garage sale frame that I purchased for $1 and some bright spring/summer fabric that has been sitting in my craft storage for months to see what I could come up with.
There’s one wall in our family room that has been empty since we had the space finished over a year ago. I just haven’t found the right wall art to fill that space without overpowering what I already have. Or when I do see something I think could work it’s been out of the budget.
So I popped a row of staples in my staple gun and got to work!
First, I put the empty frame on a flat surface right-side down and laid my piece of fabric over the frame. Then I adjusted the fabric until I felt it was lined up evenly and showing the best part of the floral pattern. Once I was good with the fabric placement, I stapled the fabric to the frame in the very middle of all four sides, making sure I pulled the fabric taut as I went.
Then I flipped the frame over just to make sure the fabric was still lined up nicely and was stretched tightly to each of the four sides. When that was done I went to town stapling the fabric all the way around the perimeter of the frame! My frame had a nice ledge all the way around the back (probably from an original painting or something that was held in with tacks), so I just followed that ledge all the way around making sure the fabric was tucked in there before stapling.
That’s it! A simple, 5-minute project that gives a pop of fun color to the wall!
How are you adding pops of color to your home this spring?

April 21, 2018 at 11:45 amThis is a great idea. I have a 1 yard piece pf Amy Butler fabric that I really love. I was a bit of a fabric hoarder for a while there. I have donated or given away A LOT of fabric because it was ridiculous and stressful and I could never find what I was looking for when I wanted to sew. This piece of AB has made it through all of the cullings because I just like it so much, I think I finally figured out what to do with it and enjoy it every day instead of pack it back away again and again.
