One of my favorite things about Christmas is the giving aspect of it all. I love finding that perfect gift for a friend or family member and then watching them open it! When I’m searching for a gift, I consider it a big bonus if the gift also helps someone else in some way. I recently stumbled upon a company that does just that: HOPErageous. HOPErageous is a sustainable project that provides handmade products from Neply, a small village in Haiti. Their hope is that this business that will not only empower people and create much-needed jobs in Haiti, but also supply buyers (that’s YOU!) with quality products that make a difference. The purchase of these products also helps to support the various orphanage projects, such as a restavecs(child slaves) feeding program, medical clinic and helping fund children’s education.
So what are these quality products? Bags. But not just any bags. These are really well-made, durable bags that are handmade in Haiti. Both the denim tote and the canvas HOPE tote are very sturdy and hold a surprising amount! The Linda bags aren’t quite as thick as the other bags but it is still very durable and it has a great story! They’re made with rice bags! Rice bags in Haiti are used all over the country in transporting food to families for use in cooking. HOPErageous has taken simple rice bags and recycled them into a outrageous bags. They have an adult-sized one (pictured above, far right) and a child-sized one (pictured below, far right).Great bags with a great purpose. What’s not to love?
