a simple diy :: football door hanger

The best part about fall is football season. I love spending Friday nights watching football with my husband and children. When we were in high school someone in the community made all the football players a sign for their door to show their neighbors that they were football players for North Augusta High School (NA). I wanted to design a door hanger that I could show our support for our local high school ‘NA”. My husband and I both graduated from NA and now our daughter is a student there.  This is a simple diy :: football door hanger to represent your favorite football team whether it’s high school, college or a professional football team.

Materials:

• 1/4 inch plywood
• Jig Saw
• Drill
• Drill bit the size of your wire
• Wire  for hanging
• Acrylic Paint :: black, white, brown and your teams colors
• Sander/sandpaper

Step 1:  First you need to draw out a template of your football and cut it out to trace onto your 1/4 inch plywood.  Once you have traced your football shape take your Jig Saw and cut along the lines your traced.

Step 2: Next you will paint your football brown.  Don’t worry about painting a second coat until you have painted your school design on it.

Step 3:  Once your paint dries you can begin painting your football marks in white on the plywood football.  This is also when I painted the NA onto the football.  I choose to draw my design before I paint as you can see the ghost image in the previous photograph.

Step 4:  When your paint dries spray it with a clear sealant so that you can enjoy it for years to come.  Make sure to embellish it with ribbon or burlap.  If you choose you can design your football to be more girly.  I wanted to design mine for the guys that play for North Augusta.  It would be easy to add their jersey number.
