When I was pregnant with my second child I decide to design a diaper bag with homemade baby necessities. Unfortunately, I was not able to complete everything I started due to being on bed rest. After my baby girl came into this world I was still unable to finish everything I had planned to make her. She was diagnosed with reflux and colic which demanded all of my time. Now, my daughter is eight-years-old, and I just finished the diaper bag and baby necessities! A dear friend of mine lost a baby boy last year, and now is about to have a baby girl this month! I couldn’t think of anyone who would be more deserving of all my handmade creations that I never got to use for my own daughter. Today I would like to share with you how I made my DIY Washcloth Baby Organizer!
Supplies:
• Sewing machine
• Scissors
• Scraps of fabric
• Washcloths
• Thread to match fabric
• Needle
• Pins
• Iron
• Ironing board
Step 1: The first thing you need to do is fold your washcloth 3/4 of the way and pin it in place.
Step 2: Next you need to decide how wide you want your pockets to be and sew the pockets vertically. I ended up with four equal pockets to fit necessities in.
Step 3: Last you will need to sew the tie. This is the most difficult part of this project, but I will share a couple of tricks that will make this easy. Fold your tie 3/4 of the way and secure with pins. Iron your fabric in place remove the pins. Then fold over the other section of fabric, but make sure to fold the edge of this part of the fabric under to where you cannot see the edge that you cut. Pin it in place and iron it. For the ends just roll the end under to where you can’t see the frayed edges and sew it by hand several times.
The best gift I ever received was a diaper bag filled with all the necessities. Some of the items I have included in my diaper bag are: burp cloth, bib, nursing cover , 2 DIY Washcloth Baby Organizers, changing pad, baby blanket, baby wipes, hand wipes, baby powder, baby shampoo, baby wash, baby lotion diaper rash cream, hairbrush, comb, fingernail clippers, nose aspirator, board books, teddy bear, and thank you cards. Since I didn’t use a pattern for the diaper bag it ended up being very spacious for a busy family that travels often! Now another family will get to enjoy a present that was designed for my own child. What will you use your washcloth organizer for?
