What do you do when you have a molar teething toddler that doesn’t want to eat anything?!
Claire is usually a pretty good eater, but man when this kid doesn’t want to eat because of ouchy teeth it is frustrating! Enter nutrient loaded creamsicles!Basically these are just frozen smoothies. And this time of year when the fruit supply is expensive and scarce, this flavor combo is what works for us and the girls LOVE them. You really can use whatever fruit is in season for you. Try this lemonade combo though – it is so yummy!Make sure you check out the Kitchen Tips for references on why healthy fats are so important, and other optional add-ins you can throw in there!
- 1 ripe avocado
- Juice of 1-2 lemons (Depending on how juicy your lemons are, and how tart you like it! We all actually like them pretty lemony so I usually use 2!)
- ½ banana
- ¼ cup melted coconut oil (optional although you really don’t taste it and it provides extra nourishment)
- 1ish cup whole milk, coconut milk, or water (Raw milk preferable, or un-homogenized, low pasteurized. Never ULP.)
- 1-2ish tsp raw honey or maple syrup
- Blend together. It will be thick – you can add more liquid to stretch it. This amount makes 6 pops for me.
- Pour in popsicle molds and freeze.
Kitchen Tips:
- Add in whatever you need to get in those sweet little babes! I have added in a good quality probiotic, blended up their chewable vitamin C’s, ground up chia or flax seeds, or you could do more coconut oil so each one has a good TB in them. Very often I add in Great Lakes Gelatin as well for extra nourishing protein and minerals.
- The blended smoothie makes a great “mousse” for a snack too if they prefer that texture. Sometimes the babies around 1 may not like the super cold popsicle (both of mine did though!) so the mousse/pudding texture is a fun way to let the tiny toddlers in on the fun.
- I would start with the juice of 1 lemon and taste the mixture to see how you like it – like I said in the ingredients, I usually end up using 2 and the girls and I love them nice and lemony!
- HERE is a good coconut milk recipe. Or Native Forest is the only brand I have found that isn’t in a BPA lined container.
- Read THIS and THIS on why healthy fats like the avocado and coconut oil are so important.
YOUR TURN!
Come back and let me know how the kiddies like them!
