Ok, so I know I just shared a pot roast recipe a few weeks ago, but pot roast is almost a weekly menu item for us. I thought it might be for your family too, especially during the winter months (ahhhhh, comfort food!!). I get so bored with the same old same old ‘cream of such and such’ and so I am always on the lookout for new twists on what has become a family staple.
So it was with great joy that I happened across this little gem: 3 packet pot roast. It is so easy, so flavorful, and can be made using mom’s best friend: the crock pot. Smiles all around.
Now, one thing we have found over the years is that the cut of meat is very important. A chuck roast will make a “fall apart” roast that your family will go crazy for. This time around we accidentally bought the wrong kind of meat and while it was still flavorful, the toughness of the meat made the meal a bust for me. So, without further adieu, here it is:
Ingredients ::
1 packet dry Italian dressing mix
1 packet dry ranch dressing mix
1 packet dry brown gravy mix
1-2 cups water
2-3 pound chuck roast
1-2 onions, sliced
vegetables to taste
Cooking directions ::
Brown meat on all sides (it really does seal in the juices, making it so tender!). In a small bowl, mix dry ingredients. Add water and stir. Pour mixture over meat. Add whatever veggies suit your fancy. I usually throw in celery, potatoes, and carrots along with a sliced onion. Every once in a while I throw in some broccoli for variety. Cook on low for 8-10 hours.
