I have another quick, easy dessert recipe to share with you! I was thinking about some memories with my family on a recent trip and then remembering some of my favorite memories from growing up. Lots of laughs, good times, and good food came to mind! I love this recipe because it only has 6 ingredients, makes a full 9×13 pan making there enough for extra friends and family who join in the summer fun, and always a hit with almost everyone! Oats and chocolate are a great combination, and these bars are a perfect example of that.
1 stick butter, softened
1 cup flour
¾ cups brown sugar
1 cup old fashioned oats
8 oz. chocolate chips
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup walnuts (optional)
Mix together butter, flour, brown sugar, and oats. Work ingredients together with a fork until butter is incorporated. Press all but 1 cup of mixture into a greased 9x 13 pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over the oats mixture. Sprinkle chocolate chips (and nuts) over the top. Evenly sprinkle the remaining oats mixture over the pan. Bake for an additional 15-18 minutes or until edges begin to brown slightly.
I hope you enjoy this childhood favorite of mine! It’s a sweet, rich dessert so it can be cut into many squares to serve a crowd! Happy baking!

June 28, 2015 at 4:10 pmWhen it’s hot and I’m tired, I love simple foods. Easy to make and great to eat. These bars sure fill that bill. Reminds me of ones that my grandmother used to make…condensed milk was always in her desserts.
