a simple recipe :: italian herb dressing

For the past month or so, I have been on a diet. A real, honest to goodness, ‘say no to cupcakes and all yummy things’ kind of diet. Salads for lunch and lean meats and veggies for dinner. Now I love a good salad, but when you are eating them every day, you need a little variety. And since most of the calories in salads are in the dressing, I usually stick to oil and vinegar. Until one day when I grabbed a bottle of red wine vinegar from my shelf instead of balsamic and noticed a recipe on the back. Heinz, you are a lifesaver.

I made this for the first time a few weeks ago and have already gone through it and just made it again this week. It is light, easy and so tasty, you won’t even know it is diet-friendly.

Ingredients ::

2/3 cup olive oil
1/3 cup red wine vinegar
1 clove garlic, split
1 tsp dry mustard
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp dried basil leaves
1/2 tsp dried oregano leaves
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper

Directions ::

Combine ingredients in salad cruet. Shake until well blended. Chill and enjoy!

    This sounds good. I haven’t made salad dressing in awhile, but I might give this one a try.

    Nothing beats a home made salad dressing, and this one looks tasty. I started making my own salad dressing recently and now when I use the store bought stuff all I can taste is the corn syrup. I look forward to trying this recipe out.

    This dressing would be awesome on chicken and then throwing it on the grill to make a salad. Great summer dish!

    I always make my own dressings and will be adding this one to my recipe box. I’ve always used regular dijon but never used mustard powder before. Luckily I have some so I’ll definitely give this one a try this weekend.

    I’ll have to give this a try instead of using the bottle I buy at the store. Sounds delicious!

    Oh this does sound good for a change from the same old dressing. I love that it has garlic and crushed red pepper. I might play with the recipe and add a little more of both. Thanks for sharing!
