I love starting off my day with a smoothie. But on days when I have a little more time in the morning, I like to keep that smoothie super thick and serve it in a bowl with toppings. It’s a rare day that I can sit down and eat my breakfast uninterrupted, so I take advantage when I can! This smoothie bowl tastes like dessert, is packed full of protein and has clean ingredients with no added sugar.
The {Wella} Good Protein Bowl
Ingredients for the smoothie: Almond Milk (preferably a clean brand–my store was out so I had to use what I could), 2-3 T almond butter, a frozen banana (I keep a bag of frozen banana chunks in my freezer). If you like a chocolate taste, you can add some honey and cocoa/cacao powder.
Ingredients for the toppings: chia seeds, banana slices, crumbled Wella bar of your choice (I used Peanut Cacao in this bowl).
Directions: Add banana and almond butter to your blender. Start with a small amount of almond milk and drizzle more in until the consistency of ice cream (Yep, ice cream for breakfast!). Pour into a bowl. Top with toppings. The end. I wasn’t kidding when I said it was a simple recipe!
I’m not one to count macros, carbs or calories. I just like to eat nourishing food that makes me feel satisfied. And since this smoothie bowl if FULL of protein–25 to 30 grams, depending on which type of Wella bar you choose for your topping–it definitely kept me satisfied. I ate it for breakfast and it kept me full until my late 1:30 lunch. Wella bars are found at Super Target, Costco, Sam’s Club and Whole Foods. I pick up a box every. single. time I go to Costco. My husband eats one for breakfast every day. I usually grab one for a mid-morning or afternoon snack so I can tame my sugar beast without eating any sugar! Wella bars are made with organic, sustainable ingredients like peanuts, almonds, cashews, sesame seeds, honey, milk protein and egg whites. You’re not going to find sugar, fructose or unpronounceable ingredients here!

March 21, 2017 at 3:04 pmYum! This looks awesome! We have a smoothie every day for lunch. It’s a great way to get our three year old daughter to drink her veggies. I haven’t tried smoothie bowls yet, but I sure will soon! It’s like ice cream toppings- almost!

March 21, 2017 at 9:48 pmYum! I agree with using smoothies as a great way to get in some veggies! The bowl just makes it feel a little more like a sit down meal–and it helps that it tastes like ice cream!
