If you know me at all you know that I love getting out and exploring with my kids. Frequently my husband can come along and help even out the odds in the parent to child ratio, but often he cannot and I play ringmaster in my very own three-ring circus. Either way there are adventures to be had and memories to be made, and my kids love these times together whether we are traveling far and wide or staying close to home.
Making new memories for my little ones has been a fun and easy way to revisit the memories of my childhood. And when I say easy, I mean extremely easy, seeing as how we currently live right down the road from the farmhouse where I grew up. Some of my favorite childhood memories were walking from our house through the apple orchards to visit my grandparents just down the road. My sisters, cousins, and I would chase each other, make up games, and get dirty as we had hours of fun on the farm.
I know which farm paths will take us to the hickory grove and which ones will lead us to the various apple orchards behind our home. I know the quick way and the long way to walk to the two towering black walnut trees my Grandpa planted when his kids were young. I know which fields still grow random asparagus plants even though they haven’t farmed asparagus here except that one time over two decades ago. There is so much I can share with my kiddos as we walk around the farm behind our house.
Of course, there are some things they are discovering for themselves. Currently, the favorite place to play in our yard is the giant lilac bush right out front. The intersecting paths make for a wonderful hidden fort where mud pies are made fresh daily… just as it was for my generation, my mother’s generation, and even my grandfather when he was a child. To see the amazement in my children’s eyes when I told them all the family members who they know and love that had played before in the same place where they like to play is a wondrous thing.
So, with the baby humming away in his
Burley Solstice Jogging Stroller, the girls running ahead, and my pocket full of memories we explore the farm and see all that has changed and all that has stayed the same. Because sometimes our adventures will take us far, and sometimes they keep us near, but either way there are memories to be made.

June 2, 2016 at 12:17 amAmen sister! Big babies can’t always be worn and this stroller will last us well past the time where this not so little guy will allow me to push him around with wheels!

May 26, 2016 at 8:27 pmI’ve never heard of this brand before but love the look of it. I want to get a stroller like this for when we start more outdoorsy trips because I use a carrier and my daughter is getting so heavy in it!
