Gabriela, the 2017 Girl of the Year, is a quiet and creative girl growing up in a family of artists. In her story, Gabriela struggles with stuttering, but uses the power of poetry to find her voice and gain the confidence to make a difference in her community. The 18”Gabriela doll has curly dark-brown hair and warm brown eyes. Gabriela arrives in a cropped purple sweater and soft turquoise tank top, plus jeggings, underwear, and shoes. Also included are a pink double headband, 10 hairbands, and the Gabriela paperback book by Teresa E. Harris.
The Gabriela collection is available through American Girl’s catalogue; at americangirl.com; at all American Girl retail locations nationwide; at American Girl specialty boutiques at select Indigo™ and Chapters™ in Canada and El Palacio de Hierro locations in Mexico City; and at Toys “R” Us stores starting in March. The Gabriela books can also be purchased through retail and online booksellers.
You may have already seen her if you are border line obsessed like we are. However, it may be new to you as it is for many of the people I talk to on a daily basis while at dance, or carpool, or pick up line at school. I can’t believe it, but there are a lot of people out there that don’t know that American Girl has a specific Girl of the Year, every year.
Gabriela is a true talent who uses her passion for the arts—specifically spoken word poetry—to overcome personal obstacles and create positive change for her community. Gabriela launches with a beautiful 18-inch doll, plus several performance-inspired outfits, accessories, and toys. We’re also happy to share that, unlike past Girl of the Year characters, Gabriela will be available throughout 2017 and beyond.
Have you seen the new Girl of the Year from American Girl yet? Are you an American Girl fan, or is someone in your family a fan? I’d love dot say we are super fans here. Ha!

February 1, 2017 at 11:02 amThis doll is adorable. It’s a good thing I didn’t know about American Girl Dolls when I was a kid (I doubt they were around way back then!)–because I would’ve wanted them all.
