Seems like weekly, my husband and I have the conversion that this world has changed SO much since when we were kids. Now that we are raising children of our own, we notice every little thing that is different. When we were young, we used to be able to take a bike ride with some friends, 5 miles in to town and back, and no one would worry. The thought of letting my child ride her bike to teh end of the block, alone, these days is unheard of.
these days, we don’t only have to worry about “real-life” predators and bad situations. In this world of technology, we now have to be wary of the online safety of our children. And you know as well as I do, children are learning earlier and earlier how to use technology. It’s scary! My 1 year old is using the iPad to find games already!
I have no doubt that when my children are in their teenage years, they will know as much as me or MORE about technology. That scares me! I do my best to keep things from them, but when they know how to do things I don’t know how to do. Wow. I can pray we teach them the right way, choosing between right and wrong. We have those conversations on a daily basis. We talk about actions and consequences. I know my kids will make a mistake, I just pray it’s not a major one!
What are you doing to teach your kids about online safety? Have you been affected by Cyber bullying at all?
BGCA has put together a quiz to help test the cyber smarts of your kids these days. I encourage you to take this! You can check it out HERE.
