For this post, I want to encourage you to not only rifle through your closet to find that hidden gem so you can save a little money, but to make that hidden gem pop with a simple new piece. Or picking up a new piece and then making the outfit work around that new piece.
Here is what I did. I was at Kohl’s, and wanted to find something fun. I love shopping the Rock & Republic section because it’s a funky and rock’ish look. I think it is the perfect piece to add to your closet and then mold an outfit around. I chose a graphic t-shirt for this particular outfit. I loved the embellishments on it. It had so much character and pop that I knew it wouldn’t take much to complete it. I paired it with a studded necklace that I found in the jewelry section of my local Kohl’s (clearance section too, boo-yah!) and that concluded my shopping the day. 10 minutes and I was done. Luck? Maybe, but I was happy!
Now, to the next step, shopping my closet to finalize all the details. I had picked up a blazer at a local thrift shop over the summer. This particular one was $2.99. It was Nine West and there was nothing wrong with it. Score of the day! I didn’t know when I would wear it at the time, but knew I had to have it. I have pulled awesome inspiration from DesignHERMomma. She is constantly pulling amazing pieces from thrift stores. I am excited about doing this too, you know, when I have more time. For now, I stick with Kohl’s a lot for quick, one stop, predictable shopping. Anyways…back to the outfit!
I added skinnies that I recently purchased at a local boutique, Gina’s Boutique, that resemble some I already had in my closet from Kohl’s. I wear the skinnies from the LC Lauren Conrad line SO often, I needed another pair! I love the distressing on the ones I own.
Last, I added the boots. Oh these boots! I adore them!! Every time I wear them, I get compliments. GREAT purchase!! I have worn them a bajillion times already now, and they are still going strong. I know I have posted about them before, but seriously. They are Muk Luks from Kohl’s, although I can’t find them online right now. Maybe everyone else loves them like I do! Either way, you can click the link to see more Muk Luk boots at Kohl’s. I typically wear a 9.5 or 10 and I purchased the 10. They are perfect!!
So, what do you think? Would you wear this outfit? Do you shop your closet for inspiration or just go out and buy? I’d love to hear from you!!

December 11, 2014 at 11:25 amI think the outfit looks great on you. I personally wouldn’t wear the jacket or boots b/c they are not my particular style. I usually have to stick with what’s in my closet b/c, with 3 kids to clothe first, I can only afford to buy myself new clothing a few times a year.
