Celebrating Independence Day has become quite the bash for my family since our youngest son made his debut into our lives just in time for 4th of July fireworks three years ago! It is a blast getting to enjoy the usual parade, yard games, and sparklers while also celebrating Liam’s birthday every year. He doesn’t quite know yet that the fireworks are not a personal display for him!
On top of all the normal picnic food that we enjoy on the summer holidays, we also have birthday cake and ice cream now. So I’ve noticed between the busy-ness of all the events surrounding the 4th, the summer heat, and the detour from my normal diet I am feeling sluggish and tired this week.
Time to bust out my tried and true post-holiday pick me up!
This detox drink is so good for re-energizing and helping balance out blood sugar levels from all the heavy food and sweets that come with special days of celebration. It utilizes green tea, turmeric, and apple cider vinegar- all of which are excellent for detoxing and reducing inflammation! I use a tea blend made with turmeric just because I find adding the spice straight up is a little strong for my taste, but you could use a half teaspoon or so in place of the tea blend if needed. You can also substitute green tea for any of the flavored teas as well- I love to make this with a berry blend or peach tea!
Post-Holiday Detox Drink
1 green tea bag (or tea flavor of your choice)
1 turmeric detox tea bag, or 1/2 tsp. turmeric
1-2 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar
Truvia, to taste
Ice and Water
Brew your green/flavored tea and turmeric detox tea in hot water for 3-4 minutes. While tea is steeping, pour 1-2 Tablespoons apple cider vinegar into glass cup filled part way with ice cubes. Pour hot tea over the ice and fill with cold water to top off your drink. Add truvia, honey, or other sweetener to taste- the turmeric and apple cider vinegar are strong tasting by themselves. Sip on your detox drink throughout the day to help fight bloating, inflammation, and zapped energy!
How are YOU feeling this week? What tips do you have for me, outside of this tea, to help me get back at it?
*If not using a turmeric detox tea, stir the powdered turmeric into the hot green/flavored tea as it is steeping.

July 24, 2017 at 6:41 pmThis post-holiday detox drink looks like a wonderful way to transition back to healthy eating. I already use apple cider vinegar, and turmeric, but I never thought to combine them for a detox drink. I am definitely going to try this. Thank you.
