School starts in 3 minutes and you live 3 minutes away. “We can make it! Go! Go! Go!” As you run out the door you realize that not only do you not have on matching shoes, you haven’t had time to brush your hair. “Forget the shoes,” you think, “but I cannot go out in public looking like this.” So you grab your favorite hat and you’re out the door. (I really hope this has happened to at least a few of you because it happens here at least once a week, if not more).
What makes a hat my favorite? It’s got to have a good fit and a sturdy bill. It’s got to be versatile and match a lot of things. But what’s the most important part? Being monogrammed. Like the good little Southerner I am, I love to put my initials on all the things. All of them. Especially my hat. Somehow it makes it just a little…well, fancier. It says I really want to look cute but I’m just not a morning person and I simply couldn’t get the children and myself ready.
I worked at a monogram store in high school and college and had several monogrammed hats that were a staple for a while there (see also: any picture taken of me from 1997-1999). For a while there I strayed from the beloved cap and went with the messy ponytail (see also: any picture taken of me from 2000-2006 and again from 2008-2012) but a few months ago I found these raggy patch hats from Gigi Babies on etsy and they have quickly become my new must-have.
The hats have a brass buckle closure (not velcro) so that you can adjust the fit and there’s a spot for the extra length to tuck-in so it won’t stick out. The patch can be made from a wide variety of fabrics including chevron, gingham, seeersucker and you can choose the type of monogram as well.

August 7, 2013 at 2:07 pmBridget, I love this post! I was the mom flying in the parking lot at the last second to drop off my kid. I also had days that I had to keep on the sunglasses to hide the stale mascara that I didn’t wash off from the day before. lol. Hair…don’t even want to talk about that. I think I need to get me one of these hats!
