From cupcakes to gingerbread, this holiday season wraps up a very “sweet” year for Bari Koral. Anna and the Cupcakes, Bari’s second full-length studio CD for kids and familes, was honored this year with the prestigious NAPPA Gold and Parents’ Choice Recommended awards. Anna blends a cool mix of country, blues, and folk (all original, save a cover of the Avett Brothers’ “Kick Drum Heart”). People Magazine dubbed the album one of the year’s coolest for kids. Rave reviews for Bari’s music rolled in from media outlets nationwide, including Yahoo! Kids, Time Out NY Kids, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Newsday, and more.
This is such a fun family pop-rock CD! I am totally digging it, and for some reason it reminds me of when I was an early-teenager – a simpler, more daydreamy time in my life – a time when I wrote poetry and doodled and read books and lay in the sun for hours on end… Some of the songs have that dreamy feel, some are folksy and cool, while others have a bluesy rock feel, but all of them are catchy and feel-good and will definitely have your head bopping. Bari has a really nice voice – clear and sweet, without being too sugary. This is a really great album that has landed a spot in Lily’s iPod rotation (which is limited because she has a SUPER old school hand-me-down 2nd Gen Nano that only holds 8MB), so you KNOW it’s got to be good!
Check out the Classroom tab on Bari’s website, which will give you some fun activities and “moves” that you can do along with her songs. Keep scrolling, there are a TON of fun activities! You can see her live if you live on the East Coast! Maybe one day she’ll come to California… 🙂
