board games for the big kids :: #aSIMPLEchristmas

disclaimer no giveaway

It is no secret that we are fans of Family Game Night around here but I’ll let you in on a secret. You see, I can send my older kids to play a board game together during nap time for the little one and actually get things done around the house. Basically, the gift of a board game to your kids this Christmas can also be a gift of time back to yourself.

If you need some games for those older kids to play together here are three picks my kiddos cannot get enough of.

stick stack board game collage for the simple moms

Stick Stack :: this “game of tilting tactics” is a fun one to play with 2 or more players. Players take turn drawing colored sticks from a bag (without looking!) and then have to stack those sticks strategically to match any colors that will touch. The more sticks that have been stacked the more difficult it is to not tilt the tower or make some of the sticks fall. Recommended for ages 8 and up, but my 6-year-old was just as successful at not being the person to tip the tower as her 9-year-old sister.

Star Wars Eye Found It! :: if you have any Star Wars fans at your house this is a fun game of searching with a Star Wars theme. For 2 to 4 players ages 6 and up there are so many favorites to find as you fly from planet to planet and search the 13 galactic locations for hidden objects. Our first search was for hidden bones and I will proudly announce that with bedtime quickly approaching I totally lucked out and blindly picked the R2-D2 Reward Tile to instantly end the game.

Star Wars Eye Found It! game play

Ravensburger Buggaloop :: a few years back we gave a HEXBUG as a gift to a family member and my kids became absolutely fascinated by those little robotic creatures. Imagine their excitement when I showed them a game that not only incorporates a HEXBUG nano V2 but their love for fun and competitive board games? Yeah, cool mom award right here. 😉 Players take turns rolling the die and moving their bugs across the yard until the HEXBUG emerges and tries to knock them off. Be the first to move all your bugs to safety and you’ve won the game! Another game for 2-4 players and recommended for ages 6+

My nephew really likes books and puzzles where you have to find things, like the I Found It.
