Who knew constructing a bug robot and watching it jump to life would be so fun? Well, apparently Colorific did. This is not an overwhelming project by any means. It’s fun for kids, collectors, and anyone interested in beginner robotics. It’s recommended adults help ages 4-7, but 8 and up should be able to handle this 20 piece robot bug just fine. Charlie (5) and I set to work on his Scatter Ant. Jack (10) finished Buzzy Bee in no time. Annabelle (8) only needed help once with Lady Bug. It comes with various stickers to finish the project. The kids got to choose their eye color, add flowers and lightning bolts to the wings, etc.
The fun doesn’t end once the bugs are assembled. The assembly is just the beginning of the enjoyment of this toy. The kids did races, figured out how to connect all three bugs, and I even saw a little stuffed animal going on a ride on the back of a Lady Bug. We missed THIS video to show us how to do caterpillar mode, but we eventually spotted a little pull down tab on the front of each bug. These are the only kinds of bugs I want scampering around my house. They are cute and have provided quite a bit of entertainment.
As summer approaches, you might consider grabbing these for a rainy day project. They will be on my radar the next time I need to buy a friend a birthday gift too. The video below is our kids enjoying their Build-a-Bots.
