A company that I just recently heard about called Usborne Books, is slowly making a little library on our shelf. I got into contact with Laurie that is a consultant for Usborne Books and she sent us three books, one for each of my kids. I have to tell you the books that she picked out where SPOT ON for my kids. It was unbelievable how she got the perfect books picked out for my kids.
A little about Usborne:
Usborne and Kane Miller books are the most exciting, engaging, and educational books on the market today. They are high quality, innovative, lavishly-illustrated and best of all they are the books kids love to read. Choose from almost 2000 bright colorful and fun titles covering a wide variety of subjects.
The selection that Usborne books has is amazing. There are so many types of books, and by that I mean this:
- Age Levels
- Collections
- Combined Volumes
- Lift-the-Flap
- Non-Fiction
- Activities
- Storytime Apps
- eBooks
- Exclusive Titles
- Kane Miller
- Reading Programs
- Seasonal
- Spanish
The different types of learning you can get from these books is amazing. The one she picked out for my older daughter is a Shine-A-Light book. You explore a tree up close and you will find a small world filled with great surprises! From worms wriggling among the roots, to birds nesting high in the branches, the hidden wonders of this amazing habitat are revealed when the page is held up to a light. My daughter LOVES to shine the light to see what she finds. We have been reading this book almost every night.
My youngest daughter got the perfect book for her. It is the 123 Counting book. Even though she isn’t ready for counting, the black and white and shapes and colors alone are perfect for her 3.5 month old eyes. I love how it expands for her to see everything.
Now, on to the car book my son got. It’s called Mean Machines Modified Cars. He can find out anything he wants about the cars in the book. Which modified car has a top speed? Which engine has a nitrous oxide injector? Which car has a plasma TV in the truck? It’s all inside! Just last night he was telling me which car was the fastest. He was so excited. For him, I have to find books that are exciting and going to catch his eye and keep his attention. This one did it.
We all know that reading to our kids is important, but did you know that it’s also important to make sure you have lots of different types of reading materials around your home? According to the Educational Testing Service, “the more types of reading materials there are in the home, the higher students are in reading proficiency” (http://www.nea.org/grants/
facts-about-childrens- literacy.html). As a mom and a librarian, I am always in search of different kinds of books that will engage and inspire children, and Usborne Books & More offers just that: fiction and non-fiction, lift-the-flap and touch-and-feel, sticker books and wipe-clean books, coloring and activity books, books for babies all the way to tweens and teens. And Usborne does more than just offer wonderful books — as an educational consultant, I can throw home and Facebook parties as well as organize book fairs, book drives, and fundraisers for your favorite school or organization. If any of these things interest you, I’d love to hear from you! You can visit my website here. I also have a facebook group you can check out here.
Now, that you have heard about Usborne books, would these be something your kids would like? I am pretty sure, with their huge selection of books, your kids would find some they love. We will definitely be looking to getting more of these fantastic books. This time I’ll let the kids pick it out. Usborne books are a great way to build your kids into readers. Let’s give them the tools to do it!
What type of books do your kids like? Tell me which ones at Usborne books they would like…
