Now, that my 7 month old is surpassing those milestones, I like to find little toys and plush things that are easy for her to grab and hold on to. I came across Oja Moon (Oja means “glow” or “vitality” in Hindu culture.) on Instagram (it’s the best social media platform, isn’t it?) and knew I had to check out what they had to offer. Oja Moon creates these adorable plush animals made of cashmere. The one cute animal that caught my eye was the elephant.
Elephants are revered in Hinduism among many cultures other as a symbol of good luck, fortune, and protection. Ganesh, the elephant God, is thought to be a remover of obstacles. Buddhist culture also recognizes elephants as a symbol of mental strength.
This adorable elephant makes a great gift for an animal themed nursery. Each animal sale feeds 10 children for an entire day at the NYCDS orphanage in Nepal. Such a great way for giving back. These little plush toys are worth it. All products are handmade at a Women’s Center down the road from this orphanage in Bhaktapur, Nepal. Each animal takes 2 days to make by hand. Not only does each purchase at Oja Moon generate funds for the orphanage, but it helps to employ the women at this Center who lack financial security, many struggling to send their children to school and many who are widows, needing income to provide for their family.
I love that she carries this little plush everywhere. It’s soft and squeshy, perfect for her little hands.
Oja Moon has cashmere blankets, along with a bear, monkey, rabbit and elephant. They are all super cute and would love to find a way into your home.
