SQUEEE!!! I’m very excited (<— can’t you tell?) to share with our readers the newest release from Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band, Aqui, Alla. Releasing on May 5, 2014 this is the perfect album to play as you celebrate Cinco de Mayo with friends, family, and of course, the littlest music lovers in your life.
This is not the first time I’ve shared releases from Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam band (see other posts HERE), but this is the first time I have gotten to share them since they WON A GRAMMY! Yep, at the Latin GRAMMYs last fall Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band became the first North Americans EVER to win in the children’s music category!
Their newest Spanish language album, Aqui, Alla was another insta-hit at our home and the first day we had access to the album we listened to it on repeat all afternoon as I mentally translated (and then actually translated for the kids) many of the songs. When “La Pequena Arana” started to play I immediately noticed that it was a melding of the Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band sound we LOVE with a Spanish-language version of “Itsy Bitsy Spider.” This is a song that my girls are thoroughly enjoying as they learn the Spanish lyrics and sing along.
Here’s a lyrical snippet (and the translation in parenthesis) for you from the title song from the album “Aqui, Alla” ::
Una Pregunta quieremos saber
De donde venimos y hacia donde vamos
(Where do we come from and where are we going?
We are from here and we’re from there as well.)
At first you may not think that the indie pop, Chicano rock, and Tejano sounds included in Aqui, Alla would blend together to make a cohesive album, but you would be wrong. In typical Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band brilliance these very different influences all meld together to create an album that immediately turned my thoughts to the fun of summer. My girls’ first thoughts went more towards the line of “Let’s DANCE!”
