Preschool is the foundation for academic learning. Children are exposed to the building blocks of math, literacy and science. My son isn’t quite old enough for traditional preschool, but I wanted to start teaching him some basics here at home without the stress of lesson planning and strict schedules. A great introduction to concepts in math, literacy, social sciences, movement and more, CHALK Online Preschool helps give me some guidance to help teach my son basic concepts.
Designed for children 18 months to 6 years old, CHALK Online Preschool is based on a proven preschool curriculum from the successful Chalk preschools in Chicago and L.A. The goal of CHALK Online it to engage kids in learning through songs and pre-planned activities to teach basic concepts about weather, shapes, numbers and reading. CHALK Preschool is a great way to supplement at-home learning. You can use the program daily, weekly or on those snowy and rainy days when you need some extra activities to entertain your child. And since I trust that CHALK videos are safe for my children, I can allow them to navigate the site on their own if I find myself needing a few minutes to myself.
CHALK Online Preschool provides a daily lesson video with new content each day. As a member of CHALK, you can also create a custom playlist that is best suited to your learning goals for your child. A younger child might learn best with videos about colors, shapes and weather. The oldest children might be ready to learn capital cities (my third-grader could even learn from these videos), site words and scientific concepts. You can let your child’s interests guide you as well. My Gym has partnered with CHALK to provide movement-based videos that encourage children to get up and move through guided movements such as the crab walk and the superman stretch.
If you want to work on some academics or just help your child with a fun craft or activity, CHALK provides plenty of printable activity sheets and activity ideas. After watching a CHALK dinosaur video, my son and I had fun using tissue boxes to create some dinosaur feet. It’s nice to have educational entertainment at my fingertips to help me stay on top of mixing in a little bit of learning with our daily play.
