chime :: debit card with cash rewards :: app review + giveaway

disclaimer giveaway
I’m excited about this post. I love saving money and I get a rush when I can share a money saving technique with others. Read on because I have $5 to The Children’s Place for the first 200 readers that jump on it. Let me explain what in the world the Chime app and debit card is all about. It’s brand new and I think we are all going to be bragging about stumbling on this when we save lots of money. I’ve been using mine already, so I can vouch for it.

The best way to manage your money is paying cash for items. If you have the self-control to spend within your means, you can earn credit card points and rewards, but one missed payment and you are in a mess of interest payments and fees. That’s what is so great about this card, it’s a DEBIT CARD! It’s a really smart way to control your spending because you load it with cash and it can be used anywhere Visa Debit cards are accepted. What makes it better then a regular ol’ debit card? You get CASH rewards when you use it to pay at the participating stores.

You get paid to shop!

{PAID CASH TO SHOP, yes I am yelling in caps!}

I was running (who am I kidding, I was walking) on the treadmill at the gym a few weeks ago and Dr. Phil mentioned how his son created a debit card that gives you cash rewards. Hello, I like that! I was immediately intrigued and downloaded the app right there at the gym during my workout. It was that easy. My card came in the mail the following week.

chime cardHow it works

I opened the app to see which retailers had offers. You can shop in store and pay with your Chime Card or shop online. I chose to shop online because The Children’s Place was having a good sale. All I had to do was transfer cash from my bank account to my Chime Card and I was ready. It was a simple as adding my banking debit card information into the app. I paid with my Chime card and I was given $5 for that order. No gimmicks!

Offers

Each offer is different. The Children’s Place is offering $5 to the first 200 readers who sign up for this card through this post. (Spend $5, Get $5)  That’s just for us. Don’t you feel special? I do! Other offers include places you dine, clothing stores, offers near you, online merchants, home improvement stores, and some of my favorites (subject to change depending when you read this post) such as:

  • Bath & Body Works (Spend $30, Get $5)
  • Walmart (Spend $75, Get $5)
  • Lowe’s (Spend $50, Get $5)
  • J. Crew (Spend $100, Get $10)
  • Kohl’s (Spend $50, Get $5)

You get the point, lots of retailers you know and already spend good chunks of money with. There is always $100 worth of offers at any given time and they change monthly. If you are really savvy, you can use your other coupons and deals with these stores AND get paid cash into your Chime account when you check out with your Chime Visa Debit card. Double Cha Ching!

Fine Print

The only thing that I saw that I do want to share is that there is a $5 monthly maintenance fee, BUT that is only after 180 consecutive days of no purchases, withdrawals, or transfers to your account.  That is something I would want to know, so that’s why I’m sharing it. Here is the cardholder agreement and there are some tips if you try to pay at the pump for gas. Sometimes gas stations will pre-authorize a payment amount to insure you have enough funds. Sounds like that could make your card wonky til it clears. Thankfully I have not experienced any trouble, but I thought it worthy of sharing too.

Easy to use app

I would choose Children’s Place. My little guy is starting preschool this year and would be great for back to school shopping. Even though this would technically be first time school shopping. 🙂
