I hope you had a Merry Christmas! I’m sure you took oodles of photos like I did. Every so often I need to transfer my pictures from my phone to my computer. Especially after the holidays when I’ve really loaded up my storage on my phone. 🙂

Ever since the latest iOS update I have had trouble with all my photos showing up on my PC when I transfer them from my phone. I have these files named .HEIC that will not view on my Windows computer. High Efficiency Image Compression (HEIC) is a new apple image format replacing the JPEG. I’m glad it’s saving space on my phone, but I often edit my pics on my PC and I want to be able to access them on my Windows computer. I did some research and I found a FREE program to help with this issue. I’m not being paid to share this post, it’s just from the goodness of my geeky heart that I felt the obligation to share this program.

iMazing

A tiny and free desktop app for Mac and PC which lets you convert Apple’s new iOS 11 photos from HEIC to JPG or PNG. If you need to extract pictures without converting them, that’s possible too of course!

I’ve been using this free download for a few months. I am cautious of free downloads, but I can say from my personal experience with the program, it’s felt safe to use and not caused any changes to my laptop. Even better, I have all my photos in the JPEG format so I can use them on my computer.

How to USE the program

After I downloaded the FREE program, I left the iMazing window open and then I opened a file folder with my photos. I went to the search box in the upper right hand corner and typed HEIC. This brought up all those pesky files that wouldn’t view on my computer.

I highlighted them and dragged the files over to the iMazing window. I chose to convert them to JPEG and directed the converted photos to save to my desired file folder.

It only takes a few minutes and you will be able to see your photos in the JPEG format on your PC. Hope this quick tutorial helps!
